I decided to do a perspective lesson with the second graders. They were to imagine they were in a Dr. Seuss world in the middle of a rain storm. Their whole neighborhood was in a tizzy, everything blowing from left to right. They were to draw this scene from their minds. I thought they turned out great! Their drawings turned out just like something from Dr. Seuss's world.

Printing to Kandinsky
Second Graders experimented with printmaking by squirting paint onto a paper plate and placing it on their papers. Then they twisted it in a circular motion, lifted it very carefully, and "oohed and awwed" over what they discovered.

Yarn Baskets
The second graders made yarn baskets this week. I pre-cut a zillion pieces of yarn and they dipped them into a water and glue mixture. Then they wrapped them around a base of a plastic cup. After two whole days they were finally dry and I could successfully peal them off. I am very excited about how they turned out. The kids loved getting slimy in the process too. I have to say, clean-up wasn't too bad either. It was a win - win!

First Project Of The Year
The second graders did this project the first week of school. It was the perfect project to ease them back into the school year. They created a landscape on the top half of a piece of paper. Then they sprayed the bottom half with a water from a squirt bottle, folded the paper face down, and let the water do the rest of the work. When they unfolded it, they found a mirror image of their colorings...just as if you were to see the reflection on water. They loved it. You should have heard their reactions when they unfolded their papers to see the result. Pure joy. A total reminder of why I love what I do.
