God In Focus

Each year Christ Lutheran picks a Bible verse to focus on throughout the year.  This year we chose Romans 12:10-11, "Love one another with brotherly affection.  Outdo one another in showing honor.  Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord."  Christ Lutheran takes pride in teaching Christ's love to our students.  It's why we are teachers.  This is our calling - to love Him, to honor Him, and to share His love to others.  As the school year gets in full swing, it's easy for us to get tired of it all.  Satan uses activities like homework, sports practices, band and choir rehearsals, work, lesson plans, meetings, exercise, meal preparations, and family time to get in the way of us focusing on God's word.  To get in the way of us showing love to our neighbor.  To get in the way of honoring others before ourselves.  I think this is a perfect verse to focus on this year.  To keep us in check.  To remind ourselves not to be lazy, but instead be full of the fruits of the Lord's spirit (Galatians 5:32), to show kindness and forgiveness to others, just as Christ did for us (Ephesians 4:32).  When we remember these things and put them to action, won't it be a wonderful site to see Christ's love grow!

As the sixth graders prepared for their first assignment, they were to pick their own personal theme verse for the year, to focus on, to keep on their minds as they grow throughout the year.  They created a watercolor as a reflection of their verse and then incorporated that verse once it dried.  A few of them added a prayer as well, asking God to lead them and help them focus on Him as the year goes by.  I love how they turned out.
